Former Finance Minister Simeon Nyachae Dies

Former Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Chache, Hon. Simeon Nyachae is dead.

The former cabinet minister died at the Nairobi Hospital, according to his family.

Nyachae vied for the presidential seat in 2002, coming third best to KANU's presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta and eventual winner, NARC candidate Mwai Kibaki.

He served as MP for Nyaribari for 15 years before his defeat to Dr. Monda.

He also served as Minister for Agriculture other than being Chief Secretary in Former President Daniel Arap Moi's government.

Nyachae was born on February 6, 1932 in Kisii County. 

He began his education at Nyanchwa Seventh-day Adventist School in 1941 for his pre-school and later joined Kereri intermediate School in 1947. In 1949, he joined Kisii Government African School, where he did his O-Level exam.

He flew to the United Kingdom where he Churchill College, Cambridge, and Torquay Academy. At Churchill College, he studied public administration and was offered a diploma on graduation.

He worked as a civil servant from 1963 before his entry to politics in the 1980s. It was then that he vied for the Nyaribari seat in 1992 and won.
