Machakos ex-Senator Johnstone Muthama has on a very occasion congratulated his ex-wife Agnes Kavindu for winning the Machakos senatorial race.

Muthama who doubles as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) national party Chairperson also congratulated the UDA candidate Urbanus Muthama who managed position two.

Muthama through his statement assured Senator Kavindu of 'their' support while urging all to join hands and set focus on the future days.

"You have our support as you serve the people of Machakos...," read Muthama's statement in part.

Muthama's words in relation to the just-concluded Machakos' polls were highly awaited, given that the winner was his former wife whose closest contestant enjoyed Muthama's support.

During her victory speech on Friday (yesterday), Ms. Kavindu called for respect to her ex-husband Muthama, making it clear that the two held no contest.

In the by-election held on Thursday, March 18, Kavindu carried the crown with 104,080 votes against her opponent, Urbanus Muthama alias Ngengele who got 19,705 votes.

Ms. Kavindu's surprise win may force UDA allied to Deputy President William Ruto to get back to the drawing table and analyze situations before the 2022 elections.

Kavindu won on a Wiper party ticket led by ex-Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, an indication that Machakos still remained a Wiper stronghold.
