 The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Fred Matiang’i, has announced a mass auction on government vehicles from as low as Ksh.10,000.

The auction sale is set to take place on Friday, April 8, at the Industrial Area from 10:00 am. The ministry listed a variety of 38 vehicles on sale, including Landrovers, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen Passat, and Subaru, among others. The highest price on the auction list is the Isuzu Canter going for Ksh. 650,000 while the lowest price is on a Daihatsu Terios with a price quotation of Ksh. 10,000.

The auction list states that the estimated reserve prices of the vehicles as; Landrovers at less than Ksh 50,000, Volkswagen Passat at Ksh250,000 and Ksh310,000, and Subaru at Ksh560,000.

Most of the cars on the list have been priced below Ksh100,000, while just two have an estimated reserve price of above Ksh600,000.

To be part of the action, one must obtain the documents from the Office of the President Harambee House with a non-refundable fee of Ksh 1,000 and are advised to go to the Industrial Area and view the vehicles on auction.

To get a bidding number, one will also be required to pay a refundable deposit of Kshs 50,000 at the auction site on the auction day. Successful bidders will get their vehicles in 30 days, while unsuccessful bidders will be refunded their money.

"The successful bidder must pay a deposit of 25% of the purchase price by the fall of the hammer. The purchased motor vehicle must be collected from the respective yard within 30 days from the auction day failure, to which a storage fee will be charged at Kshs. 1,000 per day. The unsuccessful bidders will be refunded their bid deposits immediately after the auction," read part of the statement.

Kenyan citizens are invited to go and bid for cars at the auction at much lower prices than the actual market prices.
