According to Oguna, Kenyans should not say anything that could lead to violence.

"We particularly enjoy unrivaled freedom of speech, to the extent that we have become the envy of many. However, it is equally important to note that, every right has a duty, and responsibility," Oguna stated.

According to the government spokesman, at this critical juncture, some Kenyans have been noted using social media to spread false poll information.

According to him, the information is intended to align the minds of the targeted audience to think in a specific manner. He also believes that the information has the potential to incite ill will and violence among Kenyans.

"The rights we enjoy, including utilizing social media as a platform to communicate, should be exercised responsibly. We are a unique island of freedom in a sea of restricted rights. We enjoy unfettered freedoms in almost all dimensions of social life," Oguna stated.

He further advised people to choose their words carefully during this critical election period, when Kenyans are all ears.

"This [false information] is unacceptable, particularly now when Kenyans are anxiously waiting to know who their leaders will be," Oguna advised.

He also commended Kenyans and journalists "who patriotically called out this individual and relayed the correct information to the public. You are all today’s heroes and heroines."

"We urge them to be patient as we wait for the IEBC to make any announcement," Oguna appealed to Kenyans.
