Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Health Mutahi Kagwe said that the government would announce new measures in the coming days.

Speaking during an exclusive interview in a local television station in the country, Kagwe said that he had noticed that very few people were still using masks and that they could have developed strong immunity against Covid, and therefore the government would make the decision soon.

The first time I noticed that people were not wearing masks, you wonder what happens next, let's watch and see, maybe we are developing hard immunity then you don’t come up hard on them, this is a decision we are going to make in the very coming few days,” Kagwe said.

This comes at a time when the country is experiencing a low positivity rate. In the last 24 hours, the country reported 14 news cases which was termed as a low positivity rate of 0.3%.

The report by the cabinet secretary comes days after the ministry of health signed a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and Moderna to establish its first manufacturing facility in Africa.

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday at the statehouse and will see Kenya become a big producer of vaccines in Kenya and Africa.
