With barely a year to the next poll, there have been heightened political activities with politicians aligning themselves to a side they hope will be the winning one.

And as the re-alignments gather momentum, West Pokot Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo looks to have finally build a new home – in terms of a political part.

The county boss serving his first term was elected in 2017 under the KANU party but has since fallen out with the party leadership, and recently introduced his newly registered party – Kenya Union Party (KUP).

In a post on his official Facebook account, Lonyangapuo described the new party as a new dawn as he welcomed Kenyans to join it.

The symbol of the new party is two vertical ticks.

“Good morning Kenya. It is a new dawn! Here comes a brand new Political PARTY; KENYA UNION PARTY (KUP). Symbol and Slogan UMOJA WETU. Welcome aboard this vehicle Kenyans as we chart our way into prosperity,” the governor posted alongside a Kenya Gazette notice singed by the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu confirming that KUP was among new parties set for official registration.

It is likely that Lonyangapuo will be seeking re-election in 2022 using the new part.
