The governor was speaking in the Mwaita area in Trans Nzoia County while he was addressing the press.

"We are not sure if the security officers are being deployed to Rift Valley to protect Kenyans or to cause chaos in this region," Mandago said.

He also added that it was not good to deploy officers in a peaceful region.

"There is no need to use a lot of money deploying security officers. Where was the money when our people in Kerio Valley were being butchered by bandits?" he asked.

Kangogo Bowen, a representative for Marakwet East, reiterated his remarks when he said that Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is using his position to advance the political ambitions of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party candidate Raila Odinga.

"What Matiang'i is doing does not make sense because the people of Rift Valley have learned lessons from the 2007/08 post-election violence," Kangogo said.

Kangogo further claimed that the government was responsible for the distribution of flyers intended to frighten Uasin Gishu locals.

"We know the leaflets were generated by the government after they realized our candidate William Ruto is going to win" he added.

On the other hand, Wesley Korir, a former member of parliament for the Cherang'any constituency, urged the people of Trans Nzoia to uphold peace and avoid tribal politics.

"Trans Nzoia is a cosmopolitan county where people from all the ethnic communities live. Politics should not divide us," Korir called.

However, according to Matiangi, the additional security personnel will be deployed in parts of Rift Valley as part of election measures. He also added that the government will deploy the GSU officers  Eldoret, Kuresoi, and Molo.

The CS also stated that in the above-mentioned areas at least eight people had been arrested over links to inciting leaflets.
