This comes after the Government backed-up the NHIF Bill that seeks to make it obligatory for every Kenyan above 18 to be part of contribution and membership to NHIF.

"The Bill proposes to insert a new Section 15A to make it mandatory for any person who has attained the age of 18 years and is not a beneficiary to register as a member of the Fund,” reads the Bill.

In the amended Universal Health Coverage, new members will require a monthly payment of pay Sh. 500 monthly  for outpatient and inpatient services including maternity, dialysis, cancer treatment and surgery.

This is based on targeting the more than 16 million adult Kenyans not covered by NHIF.
