University students will now receive reduced loan fundings after the Higher Education Loans Board slashed the loan to Ksh 38000 from the previous Ksh 45000 per student.

Speaking on Monday, September 6 the Higher Education Loan Board Chief Executive Officer, Charles Ringera, stated the move is to ensure as many students as possible benefit from the funds.

During an interview with a local media house,  Charles Ringera stated that the first-year students joining Universities from September 6 will begin receiving the loans in October.

The Board also announced the delay In the disbursement of loans to give room for many students to apply for the loan and provide humble time to determine the neediest and eligible students.

The students are thus now expected to use the Ksh 38000 they will be receiving annually to pay their school fees.

The Chief Executive Officer in addition said all the continuing students have received the loan.

The Disbursement to the continuing students was propelled by the rejection of a proposal that was presented to the parliament a few weeks ago sought to extend the repayment period, and slash the interest on the loan.
