Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on August 11, the IEBC chairman assured Kenyans that the various presidential results being streamed are not cause for concern. Chebukati explained that the IEBC had granted media outlets access to the portal after the polls closed on Tuesday, August 9.

According to Chebukati, media houses chose to work independently, informing their different results to their viewers.

Chebukati revealed that each media outlet accesses the results forms at different times and employs its own criteria and sequencing in tallying and transmitting the results to the public.

They are all getting the results from the same portal. Soon the figures will read the same," Chebukati stated.

“We hope media houses will end up with the same figures. The original intention was that media houses would have a consortium report of the progress of election results from one source. However, media houses opted to do it independently," IEBC boss stated.

He did, however, inform the public that the final results will be declared by the national Returning Officer, as required by law.

“We hope the results at media houses will look similar because they are from the same portal," Chebukati stated.

Chebukati stated that Returning Officers had begun to arrive at Kenya's Bomas and that the uploading of Form 34A was 99.84 percent complete, representing 46,156 polling stations.

“Results including in areas which used manual voter register have all transmitted all the form 34 As except two in Malava,” Chebukati remarked.

“We shall endeavor to announce the results as soon as possible and I want to thank Kenyans for exercising patient as you wait for the results,” Chenukati stated.
