Huduma Centres Risk Closure Due to Rental Arrears

A catastrophe is set to emerge should the government fail to act and save some of its Huduma Centres from the accumulating rental arrears.

Huduma Centres Risk Closure Due to Rental Arrears

According to online sources, at least half of Huduma Centres across the country are facing eviction due to rental arrears totaling Ksh1.7 billion.

Public Service Principal Secretary Mary Kimonye spoke before the Parliamentary Administration and Security Committee, arguing that if the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) goes ahead with the closures then public data will be jeopardized.

“Posta is demanding Sh1.7 billion in rent arrears that have accumulated for hosting the Huduma Centres. Some of the Huduma Centres are now being evicted and government data risk being compromised," Mary Kimonye stated.

The iconic Nairobi GPO, as well as others in Kakamega, Nakuru, Meru, Mombasa, Machakos, Kisii, and Bungoma, are among those facing eviction.

While testifying before the committee, Kimonye also urged Parliament to enhance funding for the sector, claiming that it was critical to service delivery in the country.

National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and National Social Security Fund (NSSF) are among the services provided by the Huduma centers in the country.
