On Tuesday, Maanzo stated that talks spearheaded by key Azimio leaders have been ongoing in an effort to entice Kalonzo back into the coalition.

“I have requested Kalonzo to reconsider running for Presidency and rectify whatever issue he has with Azimio, clearly we have two major competitors in the country and it only makes sense if we work together," Maanzo stated.

The MP stated that Wiper had questioned the legality of Azimio's offer of the Chief Cabinet Secretary position to Kalonzo.

“One of the issues we have with Azimio is the legality of the Chief Cabinet Secretary post. There is a need for some modification to make it legal because one has to be a Cabinet Secretary before they become a Chief Cabinet Secretary,” added.

His remarks come just hours after Wiper Party officials and aspirants ruled out Kalonzo's possibility of joining the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, saying the only option on the table was Azimio.

“Moving forward where Kalonzo Musyoka stand is where the next government will be. I want to assure you that we cant work with Kenya Kwanza or Kenya Kwisha,” Wiper’s Organizing Secretary Rober Mbui stated.

Kalonzo has been under intense pressure to declare his position after threatening to leave Azimio after Raila Odinga chose Narc Kenya party leader, Martha Karua as his running mate in the August election.

He even threatened to go it alone, igniting a national debate about his principles after previously promising to support Odinga for the top job.

Interfaith church leaders and the Ukambani professionals association issued statements on Friday urging him to reconsider and join Azimio.

“We are calling on our candidate Kalonzo Musyoka, Azimio coalition, and Raila Odinga to engage in dialogue. Let them engage in a discussion at the top and come before us with news saying there have reached an agreement,” Mbui stated.
