In his official Twitter handle, the National Assembly speaker said that he is ashamed by the comments made by President Uhuru Kenyatta, that should Raila Odinga win the presidency, he should not forget Mt Kenya. The speaker terms these comments by the president as hopeless remarks and paints Uhuru Kenyatta as a leader who has resorted to begging the former Premier for consideration. According to Muturi, this is not the right direction to take as a region.

“When I heard the president plead with Raila Odinga not to forget Mt Kenya region once he succeeded him, I realized we're not headed in the right direction as a region. 'Hapo ndo nikasema kimeumana'. Since when did we start begging?  We will not bow down to anyone’’ said Muturi.

The party leader said this amid his firm stand that the Democratic Party will not sign coalition agreements with other parties. In the recent weeks, he made a U-turn and stated that he was ready to welcome new friends with like-minded ideas to join him to boost his presidential bid.
