IEBC Assures Kenyans Of Free And Fair Elections Following The Seized Stickers

Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of the IEBC, diverged from the controversy in a statement, claiming that the stickers were non-strategic election materials and should not be a matter of concern.

The promise was made days after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) seized stickers from 10 counties' polling places.

While seizing the aforementioned election materials, the DCI also detained three foreign nationals at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The incident elicited mixed reactions from the nation's political authorities and caused a misunderstanding between the IEBC and DCI.

Chebukati was charged by the DCI with ignoring matters brought up by the police and the IEBC was accused of being inconsistent in their explanations of the responsibilities of the three foreign nationals.

The announcement by IEBC came amid appeals for an amicable resolution to the conflict between the electoral authority and the DCI.

Chebukati claimed that the stickers were printed in accordance with the specifics of the gazette notice published on July 1st, 2022.

He claimed that the foreigners detained worked for Smartmatic Holding Limited, which had been hired in 2021 to support the August polls using technology.
