The ballot box contained the governor’s votes from the Maramtu polling station. The clerk and a boda boda rider were stopped by the police when they left the constituency tallying center with the box.

According to Ali Ndiema, the head of Tana North police, the box was smuggled out while others were being placed into a lorry headed for the county tallying center in Hola.

"We intercepted the two while they were almost leaving the perimeter. We are holding them for questioning and further investigation," he said.

He claimed that the clerk had stated that he had received a phone call instructing him to bring the ballot box.

Police are attempting to identify the caller, in order to confirm the claims pf the cashier.

Ndiema said that the ballot box transportation to Hola has been put on hold while inquiries are ongoing.

Deputy Governor Ibrahim Sane was one of the first individuals to arrive at the scene.

According to Sane, recent events indicate an effort to tamper with the results in an alleged rigged election.

He stated that their team had started preparing to dispute the results in court and that last week's polls were neither transparent nor fair.

He advised the populace to keep the calm while they observed the court case.

The constituency and county tallying centers' senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officers had been called in to give testimony.

"The seals must be checked in the presence of agents and officers, and also we need their statements regarding this matter," he said.

Yonah Ogalo, the county's returning officer, said the clerk would be held in custody with the ballot box until the truth was revealed.
