IEBC  Sets a Deadline for Naming Presidential Running Mates

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati has announced a new date for presidential candidates to name their running mates on Tuesday, April 26.

IEBC  Sets a Deadline for Naming Presidential Running Mates

Chebukati announced the deadline for presidential and gubernatorial candidates to name running mates on May 16, 2022, at the IEBC headquarters in Nairobi.

The announcement came after the IEBC met with officials from political parties at its offices. The parties had asked the IEBC to reconsider its earlier decision to publish the deadline as Thursday, April 28.

"After meeting with officials from political parties, we have decided to move the deadline for the naming of running mates and deputy governors to May 16. However. May 2 remains the deadline for those candidates running as independents," Wafula stated.

Furthermore, candidates for the presidential and gubernatorial offices will be required to submit their names for review to institutions concerned with the integrity of leaders by August 9.
