The main purpose of the MoU was to ensure that capacity building is achieved, promoting access to electoral activities, access at tallying centers and polling stations, and ensuring that the public gets factual and credible information about the elections.

Among other issues that the MoU aims to address include providing resource persons on electoral law, processes and activities to inform the public.

The commission further added that it will provide a portal for the media to access election results in real time to promote transparency, accountability and prevent information from being distorted or any misinformation.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said that the role of media in election processes is important. He further urged the media to work with the commission to ensure that a difference is made and for democracy to grow.

“Let us work together to make a difference in this country and make democracy grow.” Wafula Chebukati.

This comes at a time when the commission is expected to conduct free fair and credible elections in the coming general elections with rising political temperatures.

The commission has in several occasions promised Kenyans of its preparedness to ensure that the August polls are viable.
