The operation, which was led by the area chief and Nyumba Kumi officials, saw several cans and containers of the brews destroyed and the liquor poured to the ground to serve as a lesson to the suspected brewers. The crackdown saw several homesteads alleged to be part of the illegal business raided and suspects arrested, while others fled to safety to avoid facing the law.

According to the area chief Johnston Mutai, brewing machines have been confiscated, and suspects will be fined according to the law.

“We have destroyed the illicit brews and collected brewing machines from the suspected homes where the illegal business is thriving. We warn anyone participating in the activities that the law will catch up with soon. We will not relent in the fight against the brews,” said Mutai

There has been an ongoing crackdown on the brews in the south Rif region, and this, according to the local leaders, will bring sanity to societies.
