Jeremy Awori Named As the New Ecobank Group CEO

According to a press release issued by the Ecobank Group, former Absa chief executive officer Jeremy Awori has been named the incoming CEO, succeeding outgoing CEO Ade Ayeyemi.

Awori announced his exit from Absa Bank Kenya last week after serving as chief executive for nearly 10 years. 

“Jeremy Awori is a highly respected leader in the banking industry with significant achievements in his previous capacities. The Board of Directors strongly believes that his drive and a strong focus on results will be vital in steering the Group in its next phase,” the Ecobank Group Chairman stated.

Under Awori, the bank made a deliberate shift toward digital banking, pledging billions of dollars in digitization, automation, and innovation.

“It is a great honor to be appointed Ecobank Group’s chief executive officer. I look forward to consolidating the transformation of Ecobank, a truly pan-African institution full of talented people while innovating to create value for all Ecobank’s stakeholders," Jeremy responded to his appointment.

Alain Nkontchou, Chairman of the Ecobank Group, thanked Ade for his enormous contribution during his seven years as Group CEO of the Ecobank Group.
