JOBS: What Not to Bring to An Interview

When heading for an interview, there are several things that you need to consider especially the items that you carry along when attending the interview.

JOBS: What Not to Bring to An Interview

Preparation leads to assurance. It allows you to make a list of the materials you'll need to bring to an interview. At the same time, there may be some materials on your list that aren't absolutely necessary.

Here's a list of materials that you should not carry along when going for an interview.

1. Foods and drinks

Your main goal when attending an interview is to pass it.

This is not a picnic. Food should be left at home. If you're hungry or thirsty, eat and drink as much as you need to before heading into the cabin for your interview. To appear professional during your interview, avoid carrying unnecessary items.

2. Laptop

When attending job interviews, never bring a laptop. For starters, it takes time to get started, and you won't be typing notes during a conversation. Avoid bringing a laptop to your interview and ensure that you give your full attention to your potential employer.

3. Unprofessional accessories

Unprofessional accessories include wacky bags or purses, sunglasses, hats or caps, and scarves. Keep such unprofessional accessories at home and refrain from bringing them to your interview.

4. Gum or candy

This is one of the most mistakes that the interviewee makes when attending an interview.

Chewing gum or eating candy at work is extremely unprofessional. If you want it to smell nice, keep it outside. Never chew or bring it with you to an interview. It's not only unprofessional, but it's also insulting to the person in front of you.

Although at times, people are encouraged to chew the gum in order to release any tension before the interview but be careful to remove it before meeting the interview panel.

5. Mobile phone

You should bring your phone with you, but you should not use it during the interview. Keep it on silent or turn it off so you don't get distracted during your interview. You cannot jeopardize your career for the sake of a cell phone.

6. Overconfidence

You must be extremely polite and generous to the interviewer, regardless of how well you have prepared for the interview. Not every interviewer will agree with you or your answers; everyone has an opinion, and you cannot question just because you believe you are qualified for the position.

As a result, it is preferable to leave bad attitudes and overconfidence at home.

7. Your friend or relative

It's wonderful that you and the other person are so close and willing to support you before such a session. However, the employer does not agree. If you show up for an interview with a family member, they will question whether you are an adult who is ready to work and take on responsibility.

8. Shopping bags

The issue here is not the bags themselves, but the message they convey. When you arrive for an interview after going shopping, you appear to have a lot of other activities to complete, and attending an interview is just one of them - thus, you don't care much about it. On the other hand, it is assumed that the interview is your primary focus for the day, so you should be dressed and mentally prepared for it.

You need to be very cautious with what you carry along when attending an interview in order to avoid being disqualified.

Here are job samples in Kenya that you should try.
