Joseph Kinyua Hands Over To Next Head Of Public Service

The former head of the public service Joseph Kinyua is now passing the mantle to the next after serving as head of Public Service for four successive governments.

While speaking after the swearing-in of new Cabinet Secretaries, President William Ruto praised Kinyua for what he called facilitating a seamless transition from the previous government to the present one.

"Joseph Kinyua has made this transition seamless and I want to congratulate him, he has worked with me to make sure Kenya gives an example of what a transition looks like," Ruto said.

On his part, Kinyua appreciated President William Ruto and other prior presidents for giving him the opportunity to work for them.

"Your Excellency sir, I hand over the mantle of coordinating the public service to a new generation of civil servants. I thank you and your predecessors for according me the privilege to serve in four successive administrations, notably the second, third, fourth, and in your administration," he said.

With the exception of President Jomo Kenyatta, Kinyua served in every government in Kenya throughout the most of his career. Kinyua served under presidents Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kinyua holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

When President Uhuru Kenyatta took office in April 2013, Kinyua was named Head of Public Service.

Kinyua spent almost ten years as the Permanent Secretary in the Treasury ministry before joining President Kenyatta's administration.

He was crucial in putting President Mwai Kibaki's acclaimed economic ideas into action.

Felix Koskei who previously served as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary is now Kinyua’s successor.
