Kalonzo Musyoka has resigned from Azimio La Umoja after failing to be elected as the alliance's presidential running mate position.

"We have agreed to go separate ways with Azimio La Umoja, and compare notes as we do so. I wish Raila Odinga's running mate Martha Karua well,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo announced that he will run for president on the Wiper ticket naming Andrew Leteipa Sunkuli of Narok County as his running mate in his presidential bid.

Earlier, Makueni MP Dan Maanzo announced that the party would petition the High Court to overturn the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance agreement, allowing its leader Kalonzo Musyoka to run for president.

He insisted that he was the only suitable politician to deputize the coalition's presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, and warned that denying him the opportunity would have political implications for Raila's presidential bid.

According to sources, Wiper allies were confident that they had elaborate plans in place to have him run for president in the August 9 election if he was not chosen as Raila's running mate. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC), collected signatures from counties to allow him to run.

Kalonzo also turned down an offer from Azimo flagbearer Raila Odinga to serve as his Chief Cabinet Secretary.

He also differed with Raila on his selection of Martha Karua as his running mate.

"My brother Raila knows I am naming my running mate. He came to my house to try and convince me to accept his choice. We did not agree and he said he would choose Martha and I told him I would choose my own running mate," Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo stated that if One Kenya Alliance had not been "messed up," he would have chosen KANU Chairman Gideon Moi as his running mate.

"I know that some people have been saying that Gideon has been sent to spy but he is fully with us. My honest opinion is that OKA continues as originally established and we move on and compare notes. We have a business to save this nation,” Kalonzo added.
