KDF Soldier Reported Dead At Friend's House

Corporal Victor Ouma of Gilgil, Nakuru County, took his own life for reasons that were not immediately evident.

Ouma passed on after ingesting a substance presumed to be acid; the incident occurred at Yao in God Jope, Mbita sub-county.

Ouma, a Kisumu County resident, was claimed to be visiting a buddy. He is alleged to have died in his buddy’s home.

According to Area Assistant Chief Fredrick Odero, the 35-year-old soldier traveled to Yao with his stepmother to meet a friend.

Ouma had been on sabbatical.

"Ouma and his stepmother had traveled to Yao to see his family. Ouma died after taking acid; according to a village elder who called me, I arrived at the scene and confirmed Ouma's death," Odero stated.

According to Odero, they informed the KDF office in Gilgil about the incident, and an officer from the KDF office in Gilgil was dispatched to see if the deceased had ever worked for them.

The officer confirmed that Ouma was a KDF soldier, according to the administrator.

Mbita sub-county police commander Stanley Atavachi said the event is being investigated while a postmortem is being performed.

"We received information that the cop had committed suicide, but we haven't seen any proof of that yet; we’re looking into whether it was a murder or a suicide," Atavachi said.

The body was taken to Kirindo's MED 25 mortuary.
