The Pride of Africa, Kenya Airways, is more like a pride of hungry lions. Competition regulators have noted that the airline is the costliest compared to other airlines on the continent. The study, which included more than twenty airlines in various African territories, concluded that the air transport service providers' prices are as high as their planes' soar. The African Competition Forum (ACF) report asserts that the (APPK) average passenger price per kilometer for domestic and international routes was higher than its counterparts. For example, the airline charges a cost that is twenty-one percent higher than (SAA) South African Airlines for economy class. The study brings to question the airline’s strategy for pricing and market retention.

Kenya Airways currently possesses nearly half of the market share of international flights of Kenyan origin, at forty-eight-point seven percent. As such, the domestic market share has more competition with other alternative airlines offering new routes and fair prices. As such, KQ’s market share is at thirty-six percent. The report highlights that the airline might lose its market share to close substitutes such as Air France, South African Airlines, and Ethiopian Airlines. As much as the report identified KQ as the most expensive carrier on the continent, it still identified routes where the airline had much more affordable rates.
