Kenya Commemorates 9 Years Since the Westgate Mall Terror Attack

Kenya is marking 9 years today ever since the horrific Westgate terror attack occurred living at least 68 people lifeless and almost 200 more injured, and hundreds were directly affected.

On 21st  September 2013, four terrorists armed with grenades and automatic rifles stormed the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, murdering at least 68 people and sparking a 4-day looting spree by the Kenyan military at the end of which the mall stood empty and destroyed.

From the deadly attack, Al Qaeda-linked group claimed to be responsible for the assaults on the Westgate center, saying it was an act of revenge for Kenya’s military campaign in Somalia, but the identities of the gunmen have remained unclear.

In the attack, four masked gunmen walked into Westgate mall and laid a cowardly attack on unarmed shoppers. As a result, innocent lives were taken and several people were injured.

Kenyans on Twitter remembered this painful and fateful day further urging each and everyone to pray for the departed souls.

Westgate mall also tweeted a post on their official page asking Kenyans and the world to pray for the departed souls who lost their life untimely from the deadly attack.
