Kenya Meteorological Department Warns Strong Winds in the Eastern part of Kenya

The department has warned strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damage.

"Those in the areas of concern should be on high alert," Met said on Monday.

Cool cloudy conditions are expected in the Monday morning breaking into sunny intervals for Nyeri, Muranga, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Nairobi, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado counties.

Sunny climates are expected to prevail the whole day on Tuesday for Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River counties.

In a July 24 to 25 forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Department had warned that Kenyans living in 13 counties should brace themselves for strong winds and large waves.

According to the Meteorological Department director Stella Aura, she said there are south-easterly winds of 20 knots being experienced in the coastal area.

Kenyans have been asked to brace for harsh weather conditions between August and December that could lead to severe drought.

The warning was issued by the National Drought Management Authority.

Its announcement comes as the government said that the number of counties currently affected by the ongoing drought rose from 8 to 10 with fears that it could increase in the coming days.

However, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa said the government was working round the clock to assist vulnerable families.

The CS named Garissa, Isiolo, Kilifi, Mandera, Samburu, Tana River, Wajir, Lamu, Marsabit, and Turkana is among the counties hardest hit by the drought.
