Kenya has tightened security along its borders as tension continues to build in the northern neighbor Ethiopia.

Kenya Tightens Border Security Following Chaos in Ethiopia

In a statement issued on Wednesday, National Police Service spokesman Bruno Shioso said the government is concerned about “recent and unfolding events that disturb the peace and stability in neighboring countries and the greater Eastern Africa region.

As such, he said security had been heightened along its borders and other vital areas.

“As an immediate neighbor to some of the affected countries. Kenya may be adversely impacted by the consequences of the events,” reads the statement.

The police service advised Kenyans to be extra vigilant and report any suspected cases of undocumented foreigners in their midst to the police.

This comes just a day after Ethiopia declared a state of emergency after forces from the northern region of Tigray said they were gaining territory and considering marching on the capital Addis Ababa.

Earlier on Tuesday, authorities in Addis Ababa told residents to register their arms and prepare to defend their neighborhoods.
