In a statement issued shortly after obtaining his visa, Omanyala stated that obtaining a visa is a daily challenge for many Kenyans.

Omanyala was granted a US visa at the last minute today. Speaking to a Kenyan media house, Omanyala expressed gratitude to everyone who helped him obtain his travel documents.

“I got it from the US embassy today and I want to thank them. There is nobody to blame here, it is the system…you cannot just force anything,” he stated.

Omanyala went on to say that Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed had been working hard to break the deadlock, with the help of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Omanyala's flight is expected to take approximately 24 hours, but he hopes to arrive on time.

“I hope I get there coz I know I am supposed to compete tomorrow. It is just about getting to Oregon and that start line and make it happen. I pray that I make it on time and God gives me the grace to handle the pressure,” Omanyala stated.

He also stated that he is eager to get to the track as long as he can get a flight to Oregon.

“I have been through a lot, I have a strong mental strength. My main aim is to get there and when I am on the start line I will forget everything. My body has to run, no matter how tired it is. It is a challenge on the table and you have to take it head-on,” he added.
