Kenyans now have Until December 2021 to get a New Passport

Speaking on Thursday, interior Security CS Fred Matiang’I said the phasing out of the old passports is in accordance with the commitment made to move to the new EAC biometric e-passport.

The CS said the Directorate of Immigration Services scaled down its operations when the pandemic hit the country. The Directorate tried to follow the measures set by the Ministry of Health.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, this is the last extension, and Kenyans are advised to make the necessary arrangements and acquire the electronic passports at the earliest opportunity possible to avoid traveling inconveniences,” Matiang’i said

The no-nonsense CS insisted starting January 2022, the old dark blue passports will be null and void.

The changing process started two years ago and according to statistics, more than half of the Kenyans with passports have transferred to the new electronic ones.
