"The British full-back will carry out rehabilitation and physiotherapy sessions until he is ready to return to training with the group," confirmed Atleti's medical department.

Trippier now looks set to miss the next six league games at the very least, which includes a the cross-city derby against Real Madrid on December 12.

He will also miss the Champions League group-stage clashes against AC Milan and Porto.

Llorente and Vrsalijko to cover Trippier

Simeone will likely have to call on the versatile Marcos Llorente and Sime Vrsalijko to cover the right-back position due to Trippier's absence.

After missing months of club football last season due to a ban for breaking betting rules, speculation around a move to Manchester United and a Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy, it has been a turbulent 2021 for Trippier, who has another setback to overcome.

One thing is certain: Simeone will not rush Trippier back into action once he is ready, as he looks to avoid aggravating this recent injury and preventing a future spell on the sidelines.
