KMTC Student Murdered in Cold Blood In Homa Bay

A KMTC Student in Homa Bay identified as Emily Chepkemoi was found dead on Sunday afternoon, 3rd July after she went missing for more than 48 hours.

The  Corpse of the 23-year-old student from old Kenya Medical Training college was discovered at a rental house in Oriang' Estate.

The police in Homabay are on the hunt for the suspect who killed the student.

Her body was decomposing, and the foul smell from the iron sheet house led curious neighbors to the scene.

Ms. Chepkemoi, a first-year student at KMTC Homa Bay Town campus, was pursuing clinical medicine.

Her classmates said they last saw her on Friday.

"She attended a class up to Friday evening. She later went back home, changed, and went back to school to fetch water because she did not have water at home. I didn't hear from her until I got the news that she was dead," a student from her college reported.

Her door was locked when the body was discovered. It was wrapped in a duvet.

According to the police, a physical examination of the body showed that Ms. Chepkemoi may have also been raped.

Parts of her skin had burns, suggesting that hot water could have also been poured on the body.

Ms. Chepkemoi's friends and neighbors report that loud music was playing from her house on Friday. Preliminary investigations indicate that the time of death was also some time on Friday. Some of her neighbors suspect that this could have been the time she was attacked.

"I did not hear any commotion nor did I see anyone getting into the house. I thought there was a party going on in the house," her neighbor said.

Homa Bay Township Sub-Location Assistant Chief Duncan Oketch, who was among the first government officials to report to the scene on Sunday, said the student was stabbed several times.

"She had deep wounds on her head, back, and neck. She could have been stabbed by a kitchen knife," he said.

Her body was taken to the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
