KPLC Forced to Respond to Nationwide Blackout

On Tuesday, November 11th, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) was compelled to respond to a nationwide blackout that impacted several sections of the country.

According to the electricity firm in a statement dated January 11th, they had lost power supply due to the Kiambere Embakasi power line at 10.45 am.

They however added that their engineers were working to sort out the matter.

Other Kenyans were furious and stated that at least they could have issued power interruption notices prior to the interruption day.

"KPLC these power blackouts are too much now! What happened to Kenya Power issuing power interruption notices before power is switched off"? a fan commented on twitter.

This comes after the Ministry of Energy announced a 15% drop in electricity costs to help Kenyans cope with their high living costs. This was also in order to keep a promise made by President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Jamhuri Day celebrations.

The reduction move was to commence on January 1, 2022 and would run till December 2022. 

"The Ministry of energy hereby confirms that the Kenya Gazette of January 7, has effected a 15 percent reduction in power tariffs. The reduction will boost livelihoods and economic growth by reducing the cost of living," read part of the Ministry's statement.
