KPSEA Candidate Gets Ran Over By A Lorry

Isiah Berece, the assistant chief of Kirundi Sub-Location, said that the youngster was alighting from a moving vehicle when he collapsed and was run over by the rear wheels.

“The Grade Six boy was reportedly alighting from the lorry when he accidentally fell and the rear wheels ran over him at Kamathina area,” said Mr Berece.

The young boy passed away immediately the lorry struck him during the Tuesday night collision.

As their inquiries continue, Police transferred the boy's body to the mortuary at Marimanti Level Four Hospital.

According to locals who spoke to the media, after finishing the second day of exams, the minor walked to the neighboring Mukungi River in Karutini area to put sand onto the lorry that later killed him.

“On arrival at Kamathina area, together with the other sand loaders, the boy alighted from the moving lorry as usual but unfortunately he fell under the lorry and the rear wheels ran over him on the chest and he died,” said James Kithaka, a resident.

Kithaka claimed that many students load sand onto vehicles to earn money that they give to their parents so they may buy food because of the famine brought on by the prolonged drought.

Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Mr. Nobert Komora had earlier requested that parents make sure that their children are safe at home, when traveling to and from school, and while returning home.
