The project is expected to be a vital tourism link in the country’s western regions. The Jubilee administration also gave approval for the project to reduce the daily traffic congestion on the Kericho-Nakuru, Kericho-Bomet to Kisii, and Kericho-Kisumu highways. This delay comes even after earlier in the year, George Natembeya, the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, cautioned the contractor against delays after Ksh130 million was available as a mobilization fee and yet the contractor was to begin operations. According to Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, the project is a vital economic support for the region due to its being a dispersal route for vehicles traversing the East and Central African territories.
