‘Let Us Not Use Our Children to Throw Stones,’ DP Ruto Speaks after Kondele Chaos

Deputy President Dr. William Ruto has linked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to the chaos that rocked his rally in Kondele, Kisumu County on Wednesday.

‘Let Us Not Use Our Children to Throw Stones,’ DP Ruto Speaks after Kondele Chaos

Speaking in Migori shortly after concluding his tour of Kisumu, DP Ruto asked Mr. Odinga to "stop using youth to perpetrate acts of violence" in the campaigning period ahead of next year’s general elections.

The DP's remarks came after rowdy youth in Kondele, Kisumu County pelted his convoy with stones as he tried to engage residents, leading to police intervention that saw the crowds dispersed with tear gas.

“I am asking my friend the leader of ODM please let us not use our children to throw stones and cause violence,” Ruto said.

According to Ruto, the ODM leader should instead unveil initiatives that will enable youth to make an honest living.

“These young people deserve jobs and an atmosphere to work. They should not be misused,” the DP insisted.

In this regard, the Deputy President pledged to allocate Ksh. 2.5 million each to bodaboda operators and 'mama mbogas' in the area for expanding their respective businesses.

Although it was not immediately established whether anyone sustained injuries during the commotion, several photos shared by the DP showed a number of cars that bore the brunt of the stone-wielding hecklers.

Several cars spotted smashed windscreens and broken side mirrors. One of the cars also sported streaks of crimson that looked like bloodstains.

Ruto is on a three-day charm offensive of the Nyanza region, which has long been viewed as a Raila Odinga backyard.
