The locals led by Nyumba Kumi officials claim the officer who was drunk confronted youths who were playing pool and after an exchange of words, one of them shot in the air once before shooting at them injuring one.

They accused the officers of failing to identify themselves and arbitrary arresting the youths found at the poll who were later taken to the Naiberi police station.

“Those youths did nothing wrong. They were just playing pool and some people who claimed to be police officers came in. Without identifying themselves, they started arresting the youths and beating them up,” said the area village elder.

In a media briefing, some members of the Nyumba Kumi initiative in the area further claimed the police officers were drunk.

“They went into a hotel and tried to get chapatis by force for free and when stopped, then walked into the pool angry and this led to the incident,” said the official.

During a push and pull between the police and the youths, one was shot and injured.

The injured youth is admitted to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
