Looking For An Exemplary Breed Of Cow? Here Is Your Perfect Fit

Any farmer always looks for a breed of cattle that can provide maximum output with minimum input. Highland cow breed is a rare fantastic breed of cattle that are reared in temperate highlands. It is famously known for its long facial furs and quite longhorns.  Its origin was dated back to Scotland back in the 18th century. Their furs are usually pigmented either in red or black. They possess various adaptations that make them suitable for these regions.

The main adaptation of this cattle breed for these cold environments is the furs. They bear a beautiful coat of furs. It is usually in two layers to ensure maximum protection of the species from rainwater or the strong prevailing winds. Like birds' plumage, they also have a gland that secrets oils into the fur, making them waterproof and compact furs during hard times.
These cattle are pretty average in terms of height. A fully senesced adult can grow up to a maximum size of one meter. They are pretty heavy, with an adult going up to nine hundred kilograms. These are attributed to the vestigial structure theory that there is no need for greater heights since they only feed on grasslands.

The highland cow likes eating a lot. They graze in open fields and sometimes feed on small shrubs and herbs available. They are well skilled when climbing hilly areas and can sometimes be forced to use their horns to move plant parts during the winters.

In terms of reproduction, highland's breed gestation is quite similar to that of any other cow. It produces at least one calf per year. They are pretty tolerant and resistant to many benign diseases hence easy to rear. They are mainly kept for their high-quality meat and a large volume of milk with high butter content. It is currently priced at seventy-five thousand (75,000) Kenyan Shillings.
