After winning the Thursday elections, Eric Theuri is the new president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Outgoing Vice President Carolyne Kamende, who also ran for presidency but received 1,085 votes, came in second with 1,811 votes.

With 920 votes, Omwanza Ombati came in third, followed by Mathew Nyabena (745) and Bernhard Ng'etich (452) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Theuri now takes over from outgoing LSK boss Nelson Havi, who has dabbled in politics and is running for the Westlands Parliamentary seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) platform.

Former LSK Nairobi branch chairperson Theuri praised the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's (IEBC) electoral process while thanking his opponents for admitting defeat.

"To God be the glory. Thank you, my excellent competitors, for a well-run race and a gracious defeat. "We'll keep moving forward," Theuri said, following his victory in a statement.

In his victory address, Theuri stated that it is time for unity and that the past must be forgotten.

The lawyer stated that he will seek to restore the society to its former glory days, accommodating differing viewpoints and finding ways to ensure that more experienced lawyers and their younger colleagues who feel left out unite and establish a working formula.

Havi congratulated his successor on social media and pledged to lend his help and expertise.

"As the 50th President of LSK, my buddy Theuri Eric Njeru, the burden of public duty will fall heavily on his shoulders for the next two years. Unlike my predecessor, I will let you work and will support you if you need my advice. May you succeed where I failed and better on what I did," Havi expressed his wishes.

Simultaneously, Faith Odhiambo was elected Vice President with 1,734 votes, ahead of Ajwang Debra with 1,328 votes and Boniface Akusala with 1,333.

Jacquiline Ingutiah was elected as the LSK female delegate to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The newly elected council will take office during LSK's Annual General Meeting on March 25, 2022. (AGM).
