Manchester United centre-back was focusing on strengthening work in the gym as he stepped up his own rehabilitation.

England will play its opening match against Croatia on Sunday at the Wembley Stadium.

Maguire who had not played since March after an ankle injury sustained during Manchester United’s win against Aston Villa in Premier League, was on Thursday morning in training session with his squad mates.

Manager Gareth Southgate showed confidence in him despite of his injury and picked him in the England’s 26-man squad for the Euro 2020 championship. Liverpool’s captain Jordan Henderson also suffers a knee injury but has since played for England in a friendly against Romania last Sunday. He was used as a substitute in that game.

Southgate had defended his choice of picking Maguire and Henderson, due to their injury concerns, saying that they are experienced players during the naming of England’s Euro 2020 squad last week.

Maguire is expected to play in the Sunday’s match against Croatia.
