The head of state however vowed to "confront all forms of lawless conduct by public officials".

"I have dissolved my entire cabinet effective immediately, and all the functions of cabinet revert to my office until I announce a reconfigured cabinet in two days," Chakwera stated in a national address.

According to Malawi`s president, the new move will exclude Minister of Lands Kezzie Msukwa, who was arrested last month in a bribery case to give him chance to answer the charges that were levied against him earlier.

"This is to allow him to answer the corruption charges he is facing in court and clear his name there," Chakwera said.

The arrest of the land minister was the second corruption incident in less than a month.
Malawi's former finance minister and an ex-central bank governor were detained in December as part of a corruption investigation into charges that they falsified accounting to get loans from the International Monetary Fund.

The shocking decision came after discussions with two powerful groups, the Malawi Episcopal Conference and the Public Affairs Committee, which is made up of church groups that operate as government watchdogs.
