After members of the public detained him at Makupa causeway, the suspect, Tito Mohammed Wachira, appeared before Mombasa resident magistrate Rita Oraro on a miscellaneous application.

Makupa (OCS) Julius Oketch stated in his affidavit before the court that the suspect, a driver of a motor vehicle, purposely slammed into four other motor vehicles in an attempt to kill the traffic police officer, Maxwell Kirimi.

Kirimi had pulled over the driver and demanded that he be escorted to the Makupa police station since his vehicle lacked an inspection sticker.

“The suspect had indicated that he was going to finish off the officer by killing him through an accident, the commission of the offence points to attempted murder,” part of the affidavit stated.

The cop who had been gravely hurt was found unconscious inside the suspected vehicle, according to the court.

He was taken to a neighboring hospital and is being treated for head and leg injuries.

“We are yet to ascertain the extent of injuries of the said officer and obtain his medical records, which are necessary if we prefer charges of attempted murder,” Oketch stated.

The suspect was detained for five days at Makupa police station by the magistrate to allow police to conclude their investigations.
