Police in Thika, Kiambu County, have started an investigation to find out how a businessman who parked his car outside a public restroom and made a quick phone call lost more than Ksh5.7 million.

Mathew Magenda Githinji had withdrawn the funds from three banks and loaded them into his car before he left, according to Thika West Sub County police chief Daniel Kinyua.

The man, who is also the director of Bxbakolinxm Limited, had taken the cash out of the NCBA, Absa, and Consolidated banks in Thika town on his trip there, and he had kept it in his Nissan March car under the front passenger seat.

Githinji is said to have stopped his car outside a public restroom next to St. Patrick Catholic Church while en route, used the restroom, and returned to discover his right rear glass shattered and Ksh5,713,000 in cash missing.

Kinyua stated that although police have started their inquiries, they have not yet received any significant leads to help with their work.

Although he said there were no CCTV cameras in the area where Magenda had parked his car, he emphasized that his police were keeping an eye on the situation.

.Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Thika are currently looking into the case.

The police are trying to find out who was aware of Githinji's plans on that particular day because of how the money was stolen.

"We are however doing everything possible to help arrest those who broke into his vehicle and stole the money,” he said
