Manchester United has confirmed reaching an agreement with Real Madrid for the signing of center-back Raphael Varane.

The 28-year-old defender will become Ole Gunnar’s second major signing of the summer after the arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund earlier in the month.

The two clubs have agreed to a fee of £34million ($47m) plus add ons, on Monday and the deal is now subject to medical

Real Madrid will meanwhile pay a solidarity payment of £1mto the defender’s former club Lens.

The Red Devils have been working on a deal for the France defender since concluding the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

Varane has won the Champions League four times and the World Cup ones and his winning mentality will be a major boost to Manchester United’s side.

Varane’s current contract with Real Madrid was due to expire next year but he made it clear to the club that he didn’t want to sign fresh terms as he wanted a fresh challenge.
