The MP, who was elected on an Economic Freedom Party (EFP) platform in 2017, is seeking to be reinstated in the August 9 elections.

On Thursday, May 19, Mandera West Member of Parliament Adan Haji Yussuf uploaded the photographs with the caption: "Mandera here we come!"

The photographs of the entourage, which included a black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and about 15 Land Cruiser Hardtops, aroused outrage, with discussions spanning from Mandera inhabitants' welfare to theatrics and money spent by candidates seeking elective seats.

“They get the votes and disappear to Nairobi and go back after five years. I wish they drilled boreholes, how I wish,” one person wrote.

Mandera is one of the counties affected by the drought and famine. Pastoralists are also dealing with insufficient grazing due to decreased water availability.

Residents of Mandera town challenged the entourage in a video shouting that the MP will lose the August 9 elections.

“Utaenda nyumbani! Ngoja uone! (Wait and see us sending you home!)” a section of protesting residents shouted.

Kulow Hassan attended Mandera Secondary School and Siriba College in Maseno for his O level exams before enrolling at Kenyatta University to study a Bachelor of Education and later a Master of Arts in Philosophy.

Before getting into politics in 2017, he taught at Wajir High School and Sheikh Ali School Rhamu in Mandera and lectured at Kigari Teachers Training College in Embu.

Kulow Maalim Hassan is a Kenyan politician who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Mandera County's Banissa Constituency. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Economic Freedom Party (EFP).
