Marjan Hussein Marjan To Be Sworn In As New IEBC Chief Executive

Marjan is the first non-lawyer to hold the office, which he held in an acting capacity.

He graduated from the University of Nairobi with an MBA in Strategic Management and a BCom (Accounting Option).

Marjan Hussein Marjan, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), will be sworn in on Wednesday.

Marjan will lead the IEBC Secretariat after the oath-taking ceremony, which will be held at the Supreme Court building. The IEBC Secretariat is the professional organization that oversees the Commission's day-to-day operations and is likely to play a crucial role in the upcoming August general elections.

"Hon. Martha Koome, Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, will preside over a swearing-in ceremony for the Chief Executive Officer of IEBC Marjan Hussein Marjan today, Wednesday 16th March 2022 at 11:50 a.m.," the Judiciary said in a statement.

After the acrimonious departure of former Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba during the 2017 general elections, Marjan will take over as the substantive CEO. Since then, Chiloba has been named Director-General of Kenya's Communications Authority (CA).

According to the IEBC, Marjan defeated five other candidates for the role of new CEO who had been shortlisted and interviewed.
