All of the injured were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital. Some of the patients, received care at the same facility and were later released in stable condition.

Speaking in Nakuru during an impromptu inspection of PSVs along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, on July 3 government spokesman Cyrus Oguna, said the number of fatalities in traffic accidents has increased by more than 10.5% in the country.

He said that 2,272 fatalities from road accidents had been reported between January and June of this year, in comparison to 2,057 over the same period last year.

Oguna highlighted private vehicles, with 253 incidents, had the greatest percentage of involvement in deadly accidents.

He said that the majority of accidents were as a result of driver negligence and just a small number were mechanical in nature.
