Motorists along Waiyaki Way have been advised to brace for heavy traffic along Waiyaki Way from Wednesday, February 10.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) in a notice issued on Tuesday, February 9 indicated that traffic movement will be disrupted around the Kangemi area.

This will allow for the contractor to tear down the Kangemi bridge and reconstruct it to pave way for a brand new road design.

In a similar notice addressed last Thursday, February 4, KeNHA and China Wu Yi company urged motorists using the road to be wary of the planned diversion at Kangemi along Waiyaki Way as part of the ongoing road construction.

“Plan accordingly, use alternative routes where possible, always ensure doors are locked, windows are up, valuables and electronics are out of sight, and practice situational awareness at all times,”

“This is to notify you that a diversion has been done on the left-hand side (LHS) of Kangemi Bridge next to Total Petrol Station for a distance of about 100 metres to serve traffic headed towards the Nakuru side,” read an excerpt of the notice.

Traffic headed to Nairobi will thus be diverted to the existing left-had-side of the main carriageway which will allow for the demolition and reconstruction of the Kangemi Bridge.

Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to obey traffic signages as well as traffic marshal orders.

The authority issued an apology in advance to road users for the inconvenience that may surface as they work to improve the existing infrastructure along this critical section of the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

The ongoing expansion of the busy highway is running concurrently with the construction of the Nairobi Expressway which has caused a myriad of major traffic disruption for motorists along the route.

The construction works on the bypass linking James Gichuru Road to Rironi Highway is part of the 25.3-kilometre road expansion project that will focus on Nairobi and Kiambu Counties.

The project was commenced in August 2017 and was to be completed within a period of 36.months.
