MP Mwashetani sent a Facebook post in which he expressed his condolences to the victims’ family members.

"With great sorrow, I mourn the death of my team members who succumbed to injuries when they were involved in a fatal road accident along the Mombasa-Lunga-Lunga at Bandu area in Lungalunga sub-county”, stated the post

The MP claims that the car involved in the horrific traffic accident that killed his team members was tampered with.

The accident which happened on Thursday claimed the lives of four people including the Lungalunga MP driver.

Five people were in the car; three perished on the spot and the other two were rushed to the hospital where the fourth was pronounced dead on arrival.

The four were apparently part of the MP’s campaign team and were on the activities to promote his re-election when the accident happened

According to police records, one of the car’s tyres exploded making the car (Toyota Prado) to go off the road and roll several times while the occupants were inside.

OCPD Lungalunga, Peter Mutua said that the accident was being investigated and further information would be available once the exercise was finished.

“They were coming from Kanana heading to Lungalunga when the vehicle got a tyre burst and rolled. Preliminary investigations show the vehicle could have been at a high speed,” he stated.

The OCPD confirmed that MP Mwashetani himself was not a part of the group involved in the accident.

Additionally, Mutua urged drivers, particularly those engaged in campaigns, to obey traffic laws despite attempting to beat campaign deadlines in advance of the polls on August 9.

The wreckage of the car was taken to a nearby police station while the bodies of the victims were taken to a local mortuary pending autopsy.
