Nandi County Assembly has become the second county to reject the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill.

23 Members of the County Assembly voted unanimously against the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill and 13 supported it.

Baringo County was the first in the country to reject the BBI bill on Thursday, February 11 in a session marred by chaos and melee battles.

The county assembly was divided into two factions: KANU members who supported the bill while Jubilee members affiliated with Deputy President William Ruto rejected it.

The chaos had to be dispersed by police who lobbied teargas the very second the results were announced.

A total of 41 out of 47 counties have so far passed the BBI bill. The BBI secretariat praised the counties that voted in favour of the bill.

"This landslide victory is an indication of the popularity of BBI and is an indicator of the support the BBI Bill will enjoy at the referendum. The ringing endorsement of the BBI witnessed across the counties is an indication that the people of Kenya have spoken emphatically and in one voice.

"We wish to applaud them for listening to our Principals, President, HE Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and ignoring the lies and propaganda being peddled around the BBI process," read the statement by the secretariat.

The report passed the 24 counties threshold on Tuesday, February 23 in what was dubbed Super Tuesday and will now be subject to a national referendum in June.
