The 20 newly appointed High Court justices have been tasked by President William Ruto with serving the Kenyan people with unwavering honesty and dedication.

Newly Appointed High Court Judges Sworn In

The President urged the judicial officers to uphold the Constitution's mandate to apply the law fairly during his speech at State House in Nairobi at the swearing-in of the judges.

Ruto added that holding public office is a tough endeavor that is supported by high public expectations.

According to the Judicial Service Commission, they were chosen on the basis of merit, gender equality, regional balance, and affirmative action.

The newly appointed judges were reminded of their duty to faithfully serve Kenya's citizens, to do it with passion and without regard to their race or religion, and to refrain from letting fear, bias, or prejudice affect their judgment.

“You have sworn that you will diligently serve the people of Kenya and am very comfortable that going through the rigorous process that the Judicial service commission has subjected you in interviews, I have no doubt in my mind that you have what it takes to serve this country with diligence,” said the president.

Ruto went on to explain that because Kenya's constitution is the cornerstone upon which the country was established, it is the judges' high duty to maintain and protect it constantly.

He reminded them that the judiciary serves as the third branch of the government and as such, should be handled with respect and decency. He also asked them to support the institution's impartiality and independence.

“As you discharge all your responsibilities, as you consider issues that come before you, always remember that you serve in the judiciary of Kenya, we want the judiciary dignified, respected and we want the judiciary that promotes the values of our nation,” Ruto continued.
